I have worked for a car dealership for years and we generally got a call or 2 every week from people looking for parts for a different car manufacturer.
“Hi I’m looking for a compressor for a 2018 camry”
“Well, you’ll have to call Toyota for that this is ____.”
In the last few weeks, I have taken calls like this multiple times per day nearly every day. Is the vax making people dumber or more forgetful? Is this just an effect of the continued mental strain of this covid bullshit? Lack of oxygen from masks taking it’s toll? Has anyone else noticed anything along these lines?
My guess would be that parts are becoming harder and harder to find, so they are getting more desperate to find them.
This. My sister in law had to get a new motor for an older model Acura recently. It took 5 months to find it. They called everywhere and it even took the dealership a bit of time to get all the parts.
This, also the dealership in my town, a Ford one, only has at max 10-15 vehicles in the lot right now. 2 years ago it was packed with new and used cars. It's funny seems like they can't hold on to older cars like early 2000's models, hmmmm.
Well I think it has more to do with the demographic of those looking for parts.
What I'm saying is that people are looking for parts who never had to do that before. They're just newbies.
Example: My wife's four year old car suddenly started throwing codes and going into limp home mode on her way home from work. I called the dealer they said it would be one month before they could look at it.
I called my favorite independent shop, and they said three weeks. I pressed them and they referred me to another shop, who didn't want to look at it but I insisted. They took the car and kept for a week and then told me they couldn't fix it, only the dealer can.
So I looked up the code, went to the dealer and bought a new throttle body for $92, and installed it myself. Car has worked fine ever since.
I would never have worked on the car myself unless I was forced to. I'm too old to work on cars, I thought. But I was forced to. Wife needs her car.
I was smart enough to go to the right dealership, but maybe a lot people are clueless because they've never had to work on their cars before.
Car guy here. Yes, I think more people are becoming "DIY" and looking for parts themselves. I typically use Rockauto, Ebay, and junkyards, but newbies haven't learned that yet.
You have to be able to identify where the issue is and the exact right part to get on ebay etc. Yes, I expect newbies don't have the confidence. I have been doing this for years and I get the wrong part sometimes.
Oh I do too man. All part of the "fun."
Good theory, I hadn’t considered that.
I think it is because car parts are becoming harder to find, so people are more desperate to find the parts they need.
PS. But I agree technology is making people more stupid. They just click around without really reading.... And they are not even actually calling the Toyota dealer.
Car parts are getting harder to find. We just waited about 10 days for a new transmission. Thank God, we had a warranty!
I think it is the way businesses and phone numbers appear when you look it up on your telephone. Usually the first one is an ad but it looks like what you are looking for and it is not. However it does say Ad next to it but people just assume it's the first link on the page so it is what they are looking for. That's my opinion.
To your point, some people suggest that heavy metals can cause forgetfulness. Methyl-mercury, and aluminum are both present in vaccines.
Yes. The dumbing down is working. At my job, we try to make everything idiot proof. The problem is, they keep building better idiots.
Desperation over parts hunting. Reports are even shippers can’t get parts for their vans, had ups show up in a Penske truck rental van yesterday. Prices for used cars are up as well.
Now there is an increase in stupid from the Vax, not to be understated but the Vax are also causing extra car accidents accentuating the shortages in spare parts.

I've noticed all my vaxxed colleagues calling off...
