Because the south is at a low elevation. In CA the elevation inclines rapidly from the coast to inland. 15 miles inland in SoCal you're standing at 700ft elevation. The highest point in all of Florida is 345ft.
Death Valley, -282 ft. And the hottest place on earth. Mt. Whitney 14,505ft. It also has the biggest trees and the tallest trees on earth. Such a great place. I hope someday we take it back.
