They don't think.

I asked my ex-girlfriend once, "what are you thinking about?".

She said "nothing".

I prodded further and wanted her to tell me exactly what she was thinking about. I mean sometimes I'm pondering something completely unimportant, or thinking up rude jokes or nonsense or remembering a song, or making some future plan, or any number of things, most of which are not really worth talking about, but there's some form of inner dialogue going on in my head. Always.

She insisted that she was literally thinking about nothing. No daydreaming, no pondering, not replaying a song in her head... Just.... Nothing.

She didn't care about news or ANY world events.

She actually recently contacted me again to ask how I'm doing. I told her it sucks because of all the covid shit and how everyone buys into it.

Her response? No response, she just blocked me. I've had several people do this.

If you literally don't think about what's going on around you, you just accept whatever you hear and don't ask many questions.

It depresses me that I'm part of the same species as these people.
