At any other time in medical history, this would be classified as a sign of psychological trauma, in the branch of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

She's actually relishing in the fact she's like a dog having been abused and chained to a post her entire life and quivers in fear at the thought of the bloodied collar coming off and leaving the vicinity of the post.
