The idea that wearing a mask all day, every day everywhere will curb viruses is not true either. I suspect the poster is correct. You may be thinking of clean masks disposed of after each use. Most people use cloth masks stored in unsanitary conditions. Improvement on these conditions isn't really practical for most people.
Fauci's own study on the Spanish Flu found most of the diseases came from breathing through masks all the time. He F'd up when he said the truth of "don't wear masks" which quickly shifted to "soon we will all have to wear not one mask, but two masks" this m-f'er deserves a death sentence, my vote, by beagle eating flies (or whatever gross insect it was).
