Does anyone ever think that Joe had his dead wife killed? Did she know things about him and was going to let everyone know his dirt? And oh yeah he was banging Jill!
Depends whether he was still controlled (i.e., this is what happens if your thinking of rebelling) or if he was already controlling others on his own. Purposeful actions by someone, either way.
There is something very off about him. I came across this article last year. It was written during his first term as senator. If you can get past the fact that he REALLY thinks very highly of himself, it is an interesting look into who he was as a young man and there are a lot of familiar themes.
That said, although Hunter is an adult and responsible for his own actions, I think a lot of his problems stem directly from his relationship with his father. In a way, when you read the article, it is kind of sad when you look at the kids because they were just born into the mess. I can't imagine having a parent with an ego like that.
“And, whether you like it or not, young lady,” he says, leaning over his desk to shake a finger at me, “us cruddy politicians can take away that First Amendrnent of yours if we want to.”

Great article. This quote rings true:
That caught my eye as well. How many of them think like that?
