Obviously symbolic.

But how did they know there would be deaths? From what I can gather the frontline got crushed. So some of the backline must have been in on it and started pushing the crowd in the middle at the back on purpose. Not an expert on crowd control but isn't that very difficult to pull off?

Or it's just a show and no one really died?
