reminds me of the cheap WW2 transports who's backs would break under harsh waves. cheaply made = quick to sink
Liberty cargo ships were pumped out at 3 per day at the height of production during WW2. They were know to break in half during harsh storms of the frigid North Atlantic due to the low quality steel used in their hulls.
Were they welded construction? A welded hull can crack and the crack can propagate without limit. A riveted hull could stop the crack at a rivet.
