I was a zero operator for GTE in 1990 and we had to use codes for several things. One time someone called to report someone killing his friend (if I remember correctly he was being stabbed) and pleading for help. I got chewed out by police dept. when I connected him to 911 and I said what was actually happening rather than using codes.
