It feels they're intentionally trying to sabotage their own prosecution.
If so, why would the state of Wisconsin and their cronies want this trial to be dismissed?

Because a mistrial means he hasn't been found INNOCENT. It's just a failure of the court trial... and he can be re-prosecuted at any time in the future. They would be trying to save face for prosecuting someone unjustly. Also, a mistrial might head off Rittenhouse's ability to SUE the city or county for what they did.
An honest judge wouldn't allow that.
Not if the case is dismissed with prejudice
either way not an aquittal so the media will push he was guilty and got off on technicality.

This. They are trying to torpedo this case because they are failing so hard and are worried currently about the judge dismissing the case with prejudice.
This would be so they can say:
"Kyle Shittinhouse wasn't innocent, the judge was just a tired old Republican racist Trumptard (But I repeat myself, lol) who didn't like the idea one of his little Nazi soldiers was gonna go to prison for life for killing black people with an illegal assault rifle he crossed state lines with, and since the defense couldn't win, he declared a mistrial."

At this point, they are questioning Rittenhouse to make him look bad or ruin his credibility. This line of questioning is baseless.
As I am listening, they are trying to make him look like he had impaired judgement by not calling 9/11, saying he was acting in as a vigilante fashion posing as police and a fireman. They are grasping at straws, playing every shitty hand they have to either get a guilty conviction or shut down the case.
