We had a good thread on Q post 142, delta yesterday. Hamburg-America, now Hapag Lloyd, managed the Hindenburg and lost their local manager John Pannes in the 1937 wreck. Prescott Bush worked for George Walker of W. A. Harriman & Co., and "Harriman and Walker took a participation in the Hamburg-America Lines." Bush was also a director of Union Banking Corporation, which had its assets seized in 1942 under the Trading With the Enemy Act due to Thyssen Steel holdings that were held to be Nazi (NSDAP) related. In theory Pannes knew enough damaging data about Hapag and UBC that the Bush family was concerned. That's as far as I've gotten, there's a lot more in the links.
Bush family, what a syndicate...3 generations
That was a rather epic thread. Not much on Hindenburg, but still a hefty bunch of q-post diving. Thanks.
