But depending on your location you probably have access to a lot of mom & pop homemade ice cream brands or regionally "big" but haven't sold out yet to choose from. Try a health food store, they are more likely to have organic ice cream brands that have locally sourced ingredients. These brands will probably be sold in pints and come with a higher price tag but it isn't always the case.

Fun ice cream fact: most ice cream sitting on your grocery store shelves may have been manufactured up to a year prior and can last another six months to a year in your freezer. The clock starts ticking on "freshness" the minute you crack the top off of the container. Also, don't store ice cream in the door of your freezer, too many temperature changes every time you open the door. That's why you'll end up with ice crystals on your ice cream. The more you open your freezer the more the ice cream is subject to these swings.
