The post about "some being in this for profit" and to be "careful who you follow" was about Jerome Corsi signing a million dollar book deal and claiming to know Q team. Not Patriots giving up 100k a year jobs to do this full time asking for minimal donations to pay their bills. A main tactic in the Art of War is to disrupt your opponents supply chain. If full time digital soldiers can't pay their bills they have to go back to part time which for some would mean a lot less damage being done. If I was a CIA infiltrator the very first thing I would do would be to attack "donations" or "grifters" to starve out as many anons as possible. Esspecially when they're trying to fight an army of Anderson Coopers who make 12 million dollars a year with their own research team, production staff, editors and syndicated platform.

I firmly believe the flat earth thing was inserted into "alternative" research to poison the well.
As to why people believe it... My best guess is that they're likely well-meaning independent thinkers who aren't thinking as critically as they need to. There's some fairly compelling arguments by some of the flat earthers that I think rope some people in. But these folks are forgetting that people with $500 and a bit of engineering skill have built their own go pro balloons that can get high enough to see the curvature of the earth.
In a weird way, I have some small degree of respect for the flat earthers because they're embracing that Buddhist concept of "Beginner's Mind", which I think is something everyone should embrace. But they're just not thinking it all the way through and that's caused a lot of damage.
I fully agree with your first sentence. conspiracy theorists are so on the nose with some of the outrageous stuff that the DS want to make the entire pool of people look insane. literally at every turn if I say something against the mainstream narrative people will go WHAT ARE YOU A FLAT EARTHER. it's fucking infuriating. I dont want hard research of FACTS to be muddled with bullshit like flat earth. I have tried multiple times to research flat earth to convince myself it was flat and every time came up short, finding info presented BY flat earthers that directly negated their own claims. their "proofs" are so elementary it is impossible to take it seriously. there are countless experiments to show the physics that we have been told. they are likely leaving things out, especially in terms of dimensions and the possible bending/folding of time/space, but the overall basics are provable.
plus, a huge portion of flat earthers use the Bible as their "proof" and sorry, but that book is thousands of years old, with plenty of opportunity for translations to be fucked with. it's pretty well known that the various translations have drastically different meanings in some important parts. the Bible should be viewed as a guide, with wonderful moral lessons, but like with everything else, still taken with a grain of salt. one's relationship with God is far more important than translated words fucked with by man.

To be on the side of the Bible here, they take verses out of context and inaccurately to support their arguments. It’s very easy to use the Bible to actually disprove their arguments. The Bible has many examples of actually being ahead of science and technology, and it certainly does not say the earth is flat.
IIRC, they use the Bible's reference to the "pillars of the earth" but that was a metaphor to the rulers and kingdoms of the world, not a physical thing. Isaiah said that God is enthroned above the "circle of the earth" which to me means sphere. From what I understand, flat earthers believe that the the earth is a disc and Antarctica is the outside edge. They claim the sun is real small and apparently it travels around the disc like a needle on the record, but it must also have some sort of sine wave motion going to create the seasons. It's all so absurd. They say that holding a ruler up to the horizon proves the earth is flat (although I bet a basketball appears flat to a virus), but if the sun is somehow spinning around in a circle above a flat earth, then we ought to see that for sure. It's all stupid and half of them aren't even being serious. I'm wary of anyone in the truth movement who gives them time on their shows but does not challenge their stupidity properly, like SGT Report. SGT was big on Q and I followed him until he wasted his time with flat earthers and didn't even challenge their stupidity. OK, so NASA was founded by a former Nazi, therefore the earth is flat. That was their most compelling "evidence." Gay.

I just did this and computed a 4.6 ft drop over 60 mi. Seems pretty reasonable to me. San Jose is 50 miles from San Francisco, so the drop would be slightly less than 4.6 ft.
( My precision is probably pretty low, because I used my phone calculator without any paper, and I used the circumference of the Earth rounded to the closest mile. Rough equation: drop = R*(1-cos(2pi60/24901)), where R is the earth's radius, and 24901 is the earth's circumference in miles. 2 * pi * 60 / 24901 is the angle of a 60 mile arc (in radians); cosine of that angle gives adjacent over hypotenuse, so multiplying that by the Earth's radius gives us the distance from the center of the earth up to the point adjacent with the object 60 miles away; subtracting this number from the Earth's radius gives us the total drop.)
Don't forget the earth is a smashed sphere. The radius isn't a constant, but depends on where you are (and probably where the earth is in relation to other large bodies).
