So you believe the mod decided to keep the fake-news post because of a teachable moment? Good on ya for being able to place such trust in anonymous internet users. I admit, I tend to be more of a cynic. Those with more power should be held to a higher standard. I've deleted my own posts after learning of their invalidity. Is it so much to expect "our betters" to practice the same discretion?
For context, two days ago I had to correct someone who was spreading fake news that was obtained from one of catsfive's sensationalist headlines. This user had not delved further into the post, for if he had he would have learned that the information gleamed solely from the headline was misleading. As I write this, 303 people have upvoted OP's fake post. Do you believe it's worth duping that many people as long as some of them learned a lesson in trusting things at face value?
PPS. Okay, you have a point. Sigh, its been a long day. Some numnut just posted a clip of soccer fans in Austria saying that it was Austrians standing up against Vax passports. <facepalm> And some nuffnut actually stickied it. <double facepalm>
So maybe you have a point.
I think I just have a soft spot for hard working mods (I do).
I'm a bit curious as to WHY Cats didn't remove the post....
Well fren, it looks like he finally deleted it. Perhaps this exchange between us gave him a different perspective. I'll give credit where credit's due. Thanks catsfive! I appreciate the change of heart.
haha. Now I see. Actually, he had deleted by the time I got around to replying to your reply. I just didn't cognize it. (i.,e. the votes are still there, but the post is gone.)
"Good on ya for being able to place such trust in anonymous internet users."
What are the benefits of mistrust, here, among compatriots working, fighting and investing for a common cause? (Unless of course you aren't here working, fighting and investing for a common cause?)
I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to someone who invests hours and hours of effort in order to help this community run and be available.
"more power" Hmmmm.... I have a problem with what appears to be your perspective. What "power"? What is the personal gain that this power provides? Aside from an ego kick?
You have every right to delete your own post, particularly on learning "invalidity". I've done the same if I recall.
But it seems not so much that you want to hold the mod to "a higher standard", but rather to project your own standard on to him.
I have no issue with you expressing the view that a clearly false posts should be deleted. I do have an issue with you if you attempt to assert you have the right to demand it. Or that you are taking what I would characterize as an almost belligerent attitude (considering your language) towards those that serve here, voluntarily, for your benefit.
In the language you share, the focus on you and your actions is quite pronounced. It doesn't seem like your position is entirely objective, or without emotional attachment.
I myself have a very solid pet peeve. It is the sharing of fake and fraudulent news. I encounter it all the time, on telegram, on other media, and sometimes here. Note the moderately invested comment I made directly in response to this post. That took time and effort.
All i can say at this point is that I feel more strongly that gratitude and appreciation for imperfect voluntary servants is a more powerful force for good and our ultimate solidarity and awakening than harsh criticisms delivered from a position of investing far less, or from a position of emotional attachment.
If it was a general pede habitually posting fake news, I'd be far more inclined to advocate for censure. As it is, I'm quite happy to give more .... latitude to those who serve in a way that, as far as I can see, reflects selflessness, dedication, and investment.
That said, I am sympathetic if your primary concern here is for the quality and credibility of GAW. And, to be honest, up until a few months ago, I would have had the same concerns, and possibly even expressed them in the way you do.
However, having come through so much pain and frankly, torment (I live in Australia, and I live in Crazy Central in Australia - Melbourne, where my people have been in 14+ months of lockdown, curfews, suicides, businesses broken, well, so, so so much more I could tell, but I won't), the focus of my views have changed somewhat.
We will always make mistakes, and no mod will ever be perfect (neither will any user). But solidarity, unity, and mutual support with good will is the ONLY thing that will bring us through what is happening around the world today.
Thus, while I'm sympathetic with your desire to see the best, highest credibility for GAW, I'm am powerfully inclined to the conviction that its HOW we value and treat each other that will make the greatest difference.
Aside from this, the issue of whether Cats should remove the post or not, or for what reason, i cannot comment more.
On the other hand, I'm just expressing my view here, and it should not be taken as some sort of denial that your own view isn't valid. Maybe our emphasis is simply different.

Cheerio.
Quick note: did you read and digest the significance of Cats other post: https://greatawakening.win/p/140IrwPIDB/remember-those-fun-modmail-scree/
I dunno. All I can say is, heart and solidarity counts for a LOT in this anons book. For good reason.
