Assuming Trump extended his term, and he didn't extend Pence's, there would be a VP vacancy, right? Even if Trump's and Pence's terms expired, the succession would go to the last Secretary of State, given that the election --- and therefore Congress --- was illegitimate.
Whoever the president is would have to appoint an interim VP because the Senate was not in session. So they have to have a confirmation. Makes sense to me.
