Look at the Y head.
Closely.
Now realize, that the mask is partially transparent, and that the camera flash shows the face underneath.
Then reconcile with the surrounding drops:

Transparent is probably not 100% accurate. Have you ever seen a mascot or Disney character up-close? They use really thin, stretchy fabric to hide the person underneath, but it still allows the person to see through the fabric. Someone viewing the character would have a hard time seeing the person inside because the person inside is in a darker environment than the person looking at the character. A camera flash, however, is bright enough to illuminate the person's face through the fabric.
Take a look at this mascot to see my point. The inside of the mouth is thin, black fabric:
