Peters statement in the previous verses that Christ is the son of God was the rock Christ built his church upon.

The pope has no authority over Christ's church, as Tertullian (185ad) sarcastically called the pontiff of rome the 'bishop of bishops.'

Minor difference in understanding of that exact passage but we still land at the same point. Christ is King and the pope is a fraud.
