I use to be a gun in owner in Aus pre 96. And the freedom we have now is nothing compared to then. I remember being 16 and going into the cop shop to sit for my licence, Passed and the copper handed me a permission slip to take home for mum to sign and a week later i had my gun licence. I could use and buy centre fire cartridges. But because i was under 18 i could only buy rimfire. Basically only .22lr was the largest calibre. When i turned 18. I walked into a gun shop and brought a M1 carbine off the shelf and walked out the shop with it. Now. It's a 3 month wait for a fucking slug gun. And there are some strange fucked up laws. Like I can buy say a .308 and wait 3 months for it to clear. after 3 months i can buy another .308 with no wait period. But. Even though i now own 2 .308's If i wanted to buy a .223 i would have to wait 3 months again because i never owned a .223 before. But after i get that first .223 i can buy other .223s with no wait period. And where as before you just had to sit a simple safety test. Which was to prove you knew how to handle a gun without killing yourself or the person next to you. It was so simple, if you couldn't pass, you shouldn't have a gun. Because to fail, you would have to be just plain retarded and would probably kill yourself or some poor bastard within 5 minutes of picking it up. Now you have to do a safety course. One nice surprise. I let my gun licence lapse because i joined the army and developed other interests (women) and when i decided to get back into hunting i rang up the fire arms fuckers and i was informed, that because i previously held a licence, they would just send me the forms out. After i underwent another police check.
