Agree. That's a strong possibility.

Another is that they thought they were immune (pun intended). They thought they would get saline but the devil tricked them into getting the poison, just like the plebes.

And yet another possibility: they really were dumb and believed the propaganda, in spite of their supposed "elite" status.
