The bottom line is that laser beams are actually pretty ineffective for high volume fire. You point it at one thing, burn it, then let it cool down. Great for missiles, useless for crowd control.
Now, if we start talking about Inertial Mass Reduction Devices, Psychotronic Telepathy, Artificial earth quakes, Small Modular Nuclear Reactors, Havana Syndrome, Mind Control, etc. It's reasonable for you to have reasonable doubt.
drones/missiles =/= 110 story buildings made out of steel and concrete. These lasers are very new and even if that tech was around back then, it still wasn't bringing down a building.
Oh and the CGI plane crap... that is even worse than lazor beams.
