I just thought I'd mention wine. wine is linux program which is a wrapper that lets you install and run a lot of windows programs in Linux. The windows programs see a C drive and a windows environment including the windows registry and the programs never know they are running on Linux. If there are windows utilities you can't do without, they may still work in wine.
I have a windows DVD ripper which I use in Linux for example.
Wine does not work for everything. I have a USB sim card reader and the little windows application never works in wine. It's very annoying.
Trying linux? Getting on OK?
