I can picture these people dressed up as soldiers marching the line intimidating the enemy.

If you've read any history old armies did stuff like that.

Knights Templar would surround a fort/city during the day strip naked and pray all day.

Fresh troops would then come in and attack by night.

The militias need to adopt this. Guns are scary and all, but combine guns with suited up battle armor and troops screaming in a coordinated, erratic roaring march... Even Xi would disband the Chinese military at that point.
