Most psychedelics are introspective and not about pink elephants but I see your point.
I did find when I was on heavy drinking bouts and drug use, there were often what felt like demonic presences even when I was alone. When they'd come I'd try to ignore them but I could feel in my core that I was not alone and something was looming over me.
I'm glad you pointed that verse out because it really clicks.

Over the last year I myself have indulged in drinking quite a bit and I found it didn't do anything to help me sleep or feel better. I've basically quit getting drunk at this point, it doesn't do me any good.
I don't like not being in control of my body, especially if someone else could possibly take control for me.
