I once mock threatened to smack mine for a laugh (I lived in a country where nowadays you go to jail for smacking kids yet when I was a kid our teachers never mind parents were forever belting us!) and the chat back was “you’re not allowed to do that to me”. They were well groomed by the schools to know what parents can and can’t do. The “long march through the institutions” also includes the family. (I also lived in a country that not so long ago wanted to assign a state guardian for every child until it was kicked back).
