If both defense and prosecution aren't aware of all the witnesses beforehand, wouldn't it cause a mistrial?

The prosecution can bring in rebuttal witnesses if they get the okie dokie from the judge. It wouldn't cause a mistrial and happens all the time in trials.

I've also heard of witnesses under witnesses relocation protection being listed as something like fed wrp until they show up, so is this that?
