This doesn't make sense. Trump was president on Jan. 6th. So is the appeals court saying that anything that happens during a presidential term is open for release the day after a president steps out of office??

Yes. This is a big win for two reasons: 1) we’ll get access to all of Obummer’s documents and 2) Trump is still president and commander in chief, so he is safe.
