It happened to a lot of secret societies religions and organizations. Many examples such as free Masons and Catholic church. Originally free Masons were private business owners forming groups or unions to protect against tyrannical government, unjust taxes, extortion, etc and putting their skills together. Now it's some satanic cult of business men. The Catholics have hidden pagan roots inside Abrahamic faith masking rituals as Christian as I'm sure many are aware.
