To be honest I really do think they over-diagnose when it comes to ADHD or ADD. I knew a lot of kids I used to babysit would be on "meds" for ADHD or "inattentiveness" but they were kids! Kids are ALWAYS squirmy and hard to get to sit still. Boys especially. Kids need more time to play, more time outside, more time to get their immense energy out. And I've noticed that these kids I babysat were not "inattentive" when they did something that was actually interesting or engaging, or when I got them to talk about topics they were passionate about.
The way they run public schools is not a good method to teach kids or to make them pay attention. And that's one reason why they think every kid has some disorder when really they are BORED and need to do creative play, building, making, etc.
Just to be clear, I am NOT defending pharma, just giving my opinion through what I've seen and experienced with kids of all ages when I would babysit or sometimes run Sunday School
ADHD is not an attention deficit it can be a hyper focus on only the things that really interest a person, and boredom with the mundane. It's not amenable to the grammar school set up and that's why they don't like it, IMO. My sons' grammar school was off the charts anti-male. I swear I have never seen anything like it. They had 4 minute recess once a day, gym twice a week, and then half the time gym class would be writing a poem or Haiku about being healthy. I kid you not. Then when the boys in particular were climbing the walls they were confused and beyond punitive. PS: My ADHD diagnosed son graduated Magna Cum Laude from college.
Usually I've seen them slap the ADHD label on kids when the kids have a lot of energy, which is normal for kids to have. I remember bouncing off the walls too but thankfully my parents were normal and didn't have me sent in for testing. As I got older I was able to focus more on studies. It was all about disciplining myself and I've grown a lot in that aspect.
But wow, recess for 4 MINUTES?? Good lord that has GOT to be illegal! I remember getting 2 recesses from kindergarten through 3rd grade, then just 1 for 4th through 6th, but still they gave us a good 40 minutes for the one after lunch, and the morning recess for the little kids was only 25 minutes but every bit helped! And then we had gym every day, so we had LOTS of play time. Kids obviously can't play ALL the school time away, there has to be some actual reading and writing and math lessons to teach them the importance of learning, but still, without play time their minds get foggy with boredom and the lessons won't stick.
I know crazy right? We had the same in grammar.
I agree totally! They tried to put my son on adhd meds in kindergarten because he was a normal little boy. Lazy old teacher just wanted a bunch of drugged little kids sitting quietly to make her day easier. So glad I told her NO Iβm not going to drug my child. Turns out heβs really smart and needed some educational stimulation because he was so bored. Good teachers feed these students extra projects and challenges. Bad teachers tell u to go to the Dr and get your kid on drugs. And some parents are happy to do that because they r lazy too.
The game is even worse.
They pick smart kids, drug them up with amphetamines until they are spun, fragmented, and potential drug addicts.
That explains a lotβ¦so sad, especially for the little boys. Another way to make being male a βdiseaseβ. I wonder why they donβt like strong smart males? We know why.
I also wonder if ADHD diagnoses weren't partly rooted in the deep seated resentment of typically feminist teachers had for boys. That they jumped at the chance to medicate them and turn them into zombies as a way to get back at men that they blame for all of their own problems. I also think kids are fed way to much sugar as well. It might not help.
Yes I think you're right. They want all kids to be quiet and still like how girls are. Girls typically pay attention during class and don't fidget as much as boys, so they probably "diagnose" these boys with something they don't have so they can be medicated to make the teachers job easier.
