Atheist here. Odd, I didn't think he was referring to Christians at all. Memory serving, Sagan was an atheist, so I would have cringed if he had wrote such a thing for all to see. I thought he was generally referring to "sheep", those that accept what the media tells them without question. These sheep could have any religious beliefs or no beliefs at all.
