Wow. I hadn't really made that connection before - having to use a company's product in order to participate in society. I keep seeing the government overreach and missing points like that.
Imagine if it was something like birth control - you could only buy food, go to restaurants etc if you show proof that you're on some form of contraception. Getting the "snip" wouldn't be good enough. All for the "greater good" of course.
Well, it's more akin to car insurance. All car insurance is through private companies. In nearly all states in the US you're not allowed to participate in driving a car without actively paying for continual car insurance through those private companies. The government made the regulations that citizens must buy the product of private companies if they want the benefits of driving a car.
