Husband was USAF pilot. They are not allowed to fly over CONUS proper that fast (that they create sonic booms) except with prior permission. It is a really big deal for a sonic boom to occur from a military aircraft (excluding exercises on test ranges.)

They are either covering for something or a really big threat happened today that required the pilots to fly full out..
