There have been published articles showing its the repeated trauma of the fear porn that breaks people down. Probably the same way that many epstein victims have gone on in turn to be willing and active participants in the same crimes against children when they are older.
It makes them malleable, and then any person who is sufficiently motivated can recast them to evil.
This. I tell people there is a massive body if evidence that gaslighting - regardless of the topic - messes with your head. It is essentially PTSD. What makes you think you are immune to it?
