I assume he was a smoker, but the medications he took will cause the body to incorporate them to achieve functional balance. Dependency on these medications results. Being cut off from those medications can have deadly consequences. And in Judy Mikovits' own words, the hospital didn't provide David his medication. Sorry, to hear this. Her husband was a source of strength to Judy Mikovits, especially after everything she's been through. I pray she retains this strength spiritually through Jesus Christ to fight another day the evil medical tyranny that has spread across this land.
I believe both he and Dr. Judy were lab workers, back in the heyday where there were no universal precautions (pre-AIDS). A friend (now prematurely deceased) used to tell me stories about massive blood sprays, etc. and how they never thought of using protective equipment. So, his illness could have been from anything.
