I just got an email from a local non-profit saying they are closed until January 15th due to staffing shortages. And, everywhere I look... same thing... "now hiring" .
Some people are home because they are quarantined, but, that many? No way.
Perhaps the workforce has shrunk because some fear working and being exposed to covid?
Or because they are making more money via unemployment?
Or because they had to quit or get the jab, and they chose to quit?
Other reasons? What is going on? The lack of employees everywhere is very concerning... it's just resulting in more division. I wish I had a solution.
Covid happens. Business cut workers due to the scare.
Business now working on skeleton crews, pushing their employees as far as they can bend.
Covid restrictions start to lift.
Employees demand more help because the strain is too much.
Boss Man puts up now-hiring sign to shut up the employee and promise them they will look for more people.
Employee continues to do back-breaking work loads because "Boss Man says he will get some more people, we just have to hold out a little longer!"
Boss Man continues running on skeleton crew and stringing his employees along because he can get the same output without the cost of employees.
Employee finally gets pissed and quits because he can't keep killing himself doing 3 peoples' jobs in a 12 hour shift.
Boss Man hires another poor sap to take his place, rinse and repeat.
What is this called, my friends?
Calling it a scam is putting it lightly...
It's Slavery...
There is no worker shortage. There is an honest employer shortage.
I call bullshit. I am an employer. Granted full employment for my company is only 20 to 25 employees but I have been giving away work for 2 years due to not enough help. I am surviving with 7 people right now.
I have a 90 day employment bonus which doubles your wages for those 90 days. The catch is you have to complete the 90 days to get the bonus. Ive hired at least 25 people in the last 2 years, 3 have made it the full 90 days and 2 have quit shortly after getting the bonus. Starting wage is 18.00/hr. So all you have to do to make 36 dollars an hour is make it about 4 months. There is also about 15 hours of ot a week. So add in a bunch of hours at 54/hr.
This is a people dont want to work problem. I have taken away this incentive because it failed so miserably. It cost me a few grand for 1 friggin employee.
Well if you were in Texas I'd take you up on that. I've got no problem busting ass as long as I get comped like that. Most employers expect the world for 12 dollars an hour.
