I think you may have read the same interview I did that covers these points. It makes sense in a strange way. These lefties see supporting the homeless and open drug scenes as a big FU to the established social fabric. Kinda like when that one guy pooped in Nancy's driveway and some (not all) people thought that was awesome...lefties see us like we see Nancy.
