I grow my own salad. Even in winter. I never knew this, but salad is incredibly resistant to weather. Even more so than most weeds I know. It deals with frost without problem. Then as soon as it gets above freezing for a few days, with a bit of sunshine, the plant will visibly grow.
I only ever bought one packet of seeds and always let them grow until seeding, so they spread naturally all around my garden. I just pick a few leaves whenever I need them.
The same thing works for tomatoes, melons and potatoes; I never have to plant them. I just distribute the compost I made from last year and the seeds of whatever will spawn. As soon as I see a potato plant pop up, I cover it up a bit with more soil. Repeat until I have 30~50 potatoes from a single plant. Works like a charm.
It is almost like humans could get all of their foods from nature :-P
There may be a small increase in people returning to that lifestyle. But not too many; too many people need modern entertainment to remain psychologically stable. There's videos and stories of parents destroying their kids' video games. They never realize what that will do to them psychologically. If you get rid of their favorite hobby, well, that's one reason kids kill their parents.
I know I wouldn't be able to live that lifestyle. I'd love to have that opportunity to escape the concrete jungle whenever I want though.
Humans lived for hundreds of thousands of years without video games. The time they have been available is a millisecond in the geologic time of humans.
We don't need that shit, and there is no damage from getting rid of them.
Again, there's psychological damage from taking them away. What do you think a kid would do after a parent takes away the last thing that helps to keep them sane?
