I agree. Last week in September and wider distribution in October is what I remember seeing. Of course this info is dutifully scrubbed from the internet these days.
Given that I haven't been sick since December 2019 after catching something flu-like from another person at the end of November I believe that it was hear well before they publicly released it. I think it might have escaped early or they released it prematurely to shut down the Hong Kong protests.

I'm pretty sure I had it (along with some coworkers, Boulder CO) Nov 2019.
My whole family got it the week between christmas and new year in 2019. My kids were quite sick.
