Is there a place where I can see this kind of math?
When I was in elementary school we did a math program called CSMP that had silly looking games. Parents hated it, generally. My parents loved it because they saw we were using simple games to do high level math.
I had that 1st-6th grade, and when it was time to go to 7th grade we were all tested because we'd have to go to a standard math class and they weren't sure where to place us. On average we all placed 3 semesters AHEAD of everyone else.
They ended the CSMP program with us. First and last group to use it. Parents didn't get it.
I believe the common core stuff is garbage, but it also makes me think of the useful program I was in that was scoffed at by parents who didn't get it.
I don’t know if this is what he is talking about, but this is one common core math demo... https://youtu.be/KYFolsI9GxU
