And let's also keep in mind that civilian courts/trials constantly involve "plea deals" and lesser charges/sentences. There's no "room for negotiation" in a military tribunal like that, IMO. And people can get out of prison with the stroke of a pen by the next corrupt President or Governor too. Hanging is a more permanent solution.
