The 40,000 ft view. I keep going back and forth on Pence's loyalty to Trump and here's what we know about Pence. (Positive or Negative; White Hat or Gray-Black Hat, I've got both sides here)

Pence was in contact with Chris Miller and others for Trump's DEVOLUTION PLANS. This plan took months, years to put into place to drain the swamp of corruption in DC. Even before Trump announced Pence as his running mate, this plan was in play by the military.

DID TRUMP KNOW PENCE WOULD MOST LIKELY ACT THE WAY HE DID AS HE PRESIDED OVER CONGRESS ON J6? My instincts tell me Trump knew or had knowledge how Pence would act. That is why Trump enacted DEVOLUTION long before the Nov 3rd 2020 election. Trump knew Pence would be the cause and result of a constitutional crisis.
PENCE'S LEGACY WILL GO DOWN AS THE WEAKEST VP OF ALL TIME. And as a possible 'player' in the Coup D'etat he will be charged and tried accordingly.
Perhaps Trump steered Pence into the position exactly where he needed Pence to be and act as he (Trump) knew Pence would act.

the real Pence... this part has me confused, not that i doubt it, but also not that i know it to be true. all these body double theories and white hat black hat things are very hard to keep up with, and make you sound loony when you explain it to someone with a very narrow field of view / close minded people. one day, we will know the truth. til then, best of luck in deciphering what in the bleep is actually going on 'round here.
