I’m looking for some references/links that explain the pathophysiology on how ivermectin works in lessening symptoms. Or even just a personal explanation if you don’t have links. Thanks for your time and help!

I am not a doctor but I gather Ivermectin was created to combat parasites but it has been found to have other uses. For instance, I believe it is also a zinc ionophore like hydroxychloroquine and others.
My understanding is that our DNA replicates by creating these huge bodies we live in which contains billions of little workshops, the cells, where our DNA can be replicated. Viruses, on the other hand, just break into our workshops and use all the available tools without a by your leave. It does save them from having to create a huge body, though.
So, we have two options:
Find something to go into the cells that will stop the virus borrowing our tools. An ionophore and zinc will do this.
Block the virus from entering the cells in the first place. Ivermectin does this - I think. It latches on to the portals used by the virus. A bit like putting your towel on the deck chairs!
Zinc is the bullet, IVM, HCQ, quecerin etc is the gun. It allows the zinc to enter the cell where it is needed. You need the gun and the bullet. Just different calibers avialable.
Zelenko simplifies the purpose of the regimen, to emphasize the importance of early treatment to stop viral replication. but there's more risk involved such as systemic inflammation and clotting.
IVM has an additional 20 mechanisms of action against the virus, as well as the inflammatory stage -- which is one reason it works later in illness progression, after the viral stage.
It blocks a certain viral protein from entering the cell nucleus. Dad explained it to me but I am not up on all the science terms.
Picture a delivery truck coming from a warehouse across a highway to a customer. The highway is the cell pathway and the product is the virus. On a well maintained road with a properly running truck it goes right where it is supposed to.
Ivermectin essentially blocks the road and knocks a wheel or two off the truck so it can't reach the destination.

I think all of the anti-malarial drugs are zinc ionophores meaning they allow zinc to enter the cells and stop replication of a virus. In that way it's facilitating natural immunity. That's why it works on a number of different viruses including the flu.

While it is a really good anti-parasitic, it looks like the reason why it's useful in regards to the chinese flu (and other viruses) is that it acts like a protease inhibitor.
It might not be a full blown protease inhibitor, but it does seem to block a specific enzyme 'CYP3A4'. Interestingly hydroxychloroquine and grapefruit also block this enzyme (that's why some medicines have warnings against grapefruit usage). I am sure there is a laundry list of other things that also potentially block this enzyme.
The new drug coming out, paxlovid, now has similar side effects and warnings as protease inhibitors (ie don't take with statins, blood thinners, changes in insulin levels). This signals that the path "they" are going seems to be pointing towards widespread use of protease inhibitors as a therapudic. (which will have its own difficulties but that is another story)
tl;dr An enzyme (maybe CYP3A4) or process is being blocked, preventing the virus (and likely other things good and bad) to not be able to replicate/reproduce/function and thus not be able to spread.
^correction: I may be wrong about HCQ blocking cyp3a4 enzyme, it does block an enzyme(s) but it might be a different one. the above conclusion still seems appropriate though.
As it relates to coof, it is a zink ionophore. It’s not useful by itself, but is the “gun” that allows the “bullet” (zink) into the cell and disrupt the viral enzyme replication process.

It does this very elegantly and with limited impact on other processes that the cell needs to be doing which is why it is so low risk and well tolerated
