You can have protein but the kidneys work harder, so the limit is 2-3 ounces per meal. Increased fruit and vegetables while watching carbohydrates-berries and apples are lower in carbs compared to say peaches or pineapple. So you need to watch the amount of protein, sodium and potassium foods, and carbs due to the diabetes. Certain fruits like oranges, bananas and grapefruits are higher in potassium. In terms of vegetables most beans and spinach are higher in potassium.
