It's because of the recent SCOTUS ruling.

He had to publicly appear to be on the "pro-vax" side to give political cover for his 3 SCOTUS appointments to rule against the government in the OSHA case. Now that they've ruled, he can pivot away from "pro-vax."

Imagine the ammo this would have given to the leftists if he had come out as "antivax" at any point prior to the ruling. There would have been 2 equally bad outcomes: 1) his 3 SCOTUS appointments would have had to rule in favor of the government to not appear as puppets of Trump, or 2) they would have ruled against the government anyway, and the leftists would then declare them puppets of Trump and either impeach them or pack the court with additional justices.

By appearing "pro-vax" before the ruling, all the leftists can do is Reeee about the ruling.

I'd also note that Trump hasn't gone full "antivax" here. He's only challenging the vax for kids and the mandates, and he's promoting therapeutics. These are the least controversial aspects of the COVID situation across the political spectrum. In other words, he's building a big tent.
