They have moved beyond the news. They are now in to every major movie and tv production studio in the country (if not the world.) That is why you see recurring themes in new shows about LGBTQ issues, race, abortion, gun violence, and other wokeism. They use "casual TV" as an anesthetic to lull you into a comfort zone with these issues - normalizing them.
A major example? Every time I see an ad for Samantha Bee, I cannot believe anyone legitimately thinks she is a "comedian." She is an asset that spews DS propaganda to the 18-35 crowd.
Do yourself a favor and watch old TV shows. Experiment with it for 7 days on Pluto TV or some other platform. When you go back to new TV you will be shocked at how obvious the current messaging is. The DS didn't see a value (or had yet to infiltrate) TV shows in the 70s and 80s. By the mid 90s, they were in full swing. Now they are just a message-producing factory.
This is so true. A few days back there was an Elvis Presley movie on TV. I think it was Viva Las Vegas from 1964. I never really cared for Elvis music but I kind of liked watching the film. It was exactly as you say, fun to watch, not having messages pumped at you all the way through.
I bet there’s 400 today just working at CNN. Which ironically is higher than their viewer count

Yup, it absolutely does seem that EVERYTHING and EVERYONE is a messaging tool. It's pathetic, manipulative, mostly evil and so very tiring.

I'm the opposite. I can see it now even in old media. It just was more subtle because people reacted to it more strongly back then.
