I'm on my 10th (or maybe it's 11th) read through the Bible, and I STILL can't find any justification for the Catholic Church, and in particular, the teachings of the Catholic Church. The one verse they use to justify the church is taken out of context; it was the faith of Peter that the Christian Church would be built, not Peter himself! The Bible does not support confessing to a Priest, or praying to Mary, or many other Catholic teachings/practices. I think being in a Catholic Church and not seeing how far off it is from the truth is like Jews not seeing how far off they are from the truth; family tradition and fear of being ostracized if they leave is a powerful force.
I walked away from the Catholic Church to dabble in drugs for almost a decade. I came back to the Church after deciding to do research on history and trying to get different perspectives on both Catholicism and the Christian faith. After all I have learned my faith has been affirmed in the Catholic Church. I am NOT afraid of being ostracized for leaving a 'powerful force'. That is far from the truth, I will die being Catholic.
I won't even begin to address the paint brushing on our faith, many of us know what we are doing and actively CHOOSE this. My faith is in Jesus and Jesus alone. I am awake like never before, don't put us in a category as if we are blind, we were established first, we are the first and only.
With all this being said, fuck Pope Francis, and fuck the higher establishment of the Church, they need to be punished like any of pedophile supporter. We are on the same team, don't belittle us.
Peter was not named "Peter" (petra in Greek?--feminine gendered word?) until the conversation you reference. He was "Simon." The name change was to the man, and was permanent. Read that section again and see what statement by Jesus caused many of his false followers to walk away--the teaching of the his body and blood. The original heretics left Jesus for his proclamation of his True Presence.
I've read it all many, many, times, and it is clearly referring to the FAITH of Peter (Simon). The Catholic church belief that communion wine and bread become the actual blood and body of Christ should be reason enough to realize how wrong the Catholic church is.
You stand with the Apostates who left Christ that night, Voltaire who mocked Christ, and the pagan emperor who persecuted the early church for their belief in the Eucharist. Reading scripture over and over is also a claim every Pharisee, Sadducee could have made. It proves neither wisdom nor understanding.
You have to ask yourself this question, "Do I remain a member of the Catholic Church because my family has always gone there?", or have you studied Holy Scripture, not the writings of past popes, and concluded that what the Catholic Church preaches/believes, is in agreement with Holy Scripture?

It's interesting that Catholics refer to themselves as "Catholic", yet born-again Christians, refer to themselves as "Christians". hmmmmmm
Catholicism is Christianity, ALL Catholics are Christian while not all Christian's are Catholic.
hmmmm
As a Christian, I would say, "Some Catholics are Christians, but all Catholics are deceived by the Catholic Church".

Peter was Petra a little stone, Jesus Christ said upon this ROCK Petra God will build His church.
He literally told Peter he was tiny and that He Jesus Christ was THE Rock. Peter never even went to Rome. Paul did however.
Exactly.
