Violence and hatred can never lead to peace, how could it. We need peaceful protests. Mass numbers, sitting down in the street, chaining themselves to the building....there are many different ways of protesting but this rock and trash throwing won't solve anything. What it will do is lead to a bigger police response & more counter violence. Sucks to see and surely many of us will come and say: "enough is enough, how dare you NOT support violence, for OUR cause is just and we are GOOD and thus we are allowed to be violent! ". That's how it's been for our humanity ever since our beginnings and still we haven't learnt that this leads to nothing but more war, destruction, suffering...
What about violence in self defense? For example, let's say that the government forces you to quarantine in your house unless you get vaccinated. Many would consider that equivalent to violence, since by going outside you're physically taken to jail -- it's a credible threat.
Would you condone violence in response to that type of action taken by the government?
If you do not condone violence in that scenario, then how would you oppose that type of government oppression, aside from getting the vaccine?
That's a good question, and a difficult one to answer. It depends heavily on the given situation. In self-defense, surely, you must use some violence to defend yourself. Against an invading army (the case of Britain was mentioned), surely you must defend yourself. But are the people throwing rocks at these police men, at those buildings, are they acting in self defense? Is it the same case? It is not. Whether the use of a weapon / violence is right or wrong depends on the context, and we must be very careful not to assume that because you have been wronged, that it is right to use violence. These people came to protest mandates - yes there is coercion when it comes to the mandate, but it is not (yet) forced injection, not in Europe for sure. So what will rock throwing here achieve? Surely now, the people being harrassed by rocks have the right to defend themselves, too? Will they be wrong to defend themselves? You see how it can easily turn into a vicious cycle.
