We regularly worked 18-30 hr days while deployed. All Carriers do. Normal working hours are 13 hr shifts for most crew. Bridge watches are 4 hrs. Engine room and Nukes usually work 8 hrs on, 8 hrs off. But the flight deck crews, we regularly worked 18-20, with an avg of about 16-18, 7 days a week. And when onloading or offloading ordnance on the ship, it was work until the ship's munitions were all offloaded, usually about 72-76 hrs...straight. Only break was meal time, and maybe an hour's nap.
Hell Week in basic EOD School was 5 days, next to no sleep. I think we had about 1 1/2 hrs worth of sleep over the 5 days.
I also worked 20+ hr days for over a year straight leading up to our deployment to Iraq and for the first 6 mths we were there in the run-up to, during and after the invasion.
I can assure you, the human body can take punishments they most people can't even fathom.
Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, you're right.
Jesuits, dang them. My mom thought the world of them in the 60's and wanted me to be one. When she died in 1990 she was so happy I hadn't become one.
Sauce? Definitely an interesting data point.
