Slightly post-hippy here: I was suspicious of Neil Young from the beginning, because his songs were moronic. LSD-heads would leap about singing phrases and flapping their fringes. When moronic phrases become part of the lexicon, watch out for brainwashing techniques in action. I figured he was some sort of harmless CIA plant at the time, because his words kinda blotted out everything else when people heard them: they just started leaping weirdly.
At that time I was listening to the Wall, so I heard the 1984-esque message of "We don't need no education, we don't need no though control" I wandered if that was moronic and couldn't see it. So I guess I listened and started questioning education attempts. The result was that I was told I was a moron in physics class for questioning the hapless teacher, but I still got an A on the state exams, because I actually studied, so go figure.
Now THIS is some wisdom!
Pay attention, good people. You can see this type of stuff all throughout the decades.
