Two (of the many) things that corrupted the Hippie generation (AKA, my peers) --

First, Belief that goodwill and kindness could be created at gunpoint by Power; by the state. Giving Power to those who seek it (politicians especially) NEVER leads to anything good.

Second, the relentless campaign by the Deep State to subvert and when "necessary" to kill (John Lennon being the most famous example) those who opposed war, racial division, or anything else the Deep State wanted.
