I once read a post that made it clear and so obvious in retrospect.

Nickelback isn't bad, they just have an uninspiring and generic sound that remains fairly consistent for the entirety of their existence. They appeal to a large audience in exactly the same way they repel a large audience.

However actively disliking something because it's a meme is stupid. I don't hate Nickelback. I simply don't listen to them.
